UK based composer and saxophonist, Dan Mar-Molinero, presents a collection of five large ensemble pieces performed by his jazz orchestra and two titans of contemporary European jazz, Jasper Høiby and Julian Argüelles. From expansive chordal textures to powerful melodies to deep grooves, the album will draw you into Dan's rich and varied soundworld.

NB: A committed jazz educator, Dan has made the sheet music of all pieces [scores and parts] available for FREE with every order of the entire album.

Despite a professional career of over 20 years performing and writing for large jazz ensembles, this is Dan's debut recording of his own material for jazz orchestra.
Fittingly, the album is a celebration of the musicians who have helped shape his musical life; from ex-students who are now highly regarded professional jazz musicians in their own right to friends and close collaborators on the jazz circuit. All of whom share a close connection to the city of Southampton and its jazz community.
The album also features two of the leading lights of contemporary European jazz. The Danish bass supremo, Jasper Hoiby, introduces and solos on track 2, "Three Men Make A Tiger". Whilst saxophone maestro, Julian Arguelles' intense musicality features on track 5, "22:22" - the piece was subsequently nominated for an Ivor Novello Composer Award for Jazz Ensemble.
Conceived over the lockdowns of the recent global pandemic, the album was constructed with members of the ensemble remotely recording their parts individually and sending them to the composer who then pieced them together, producing and engineering the recording. Great emphasis was given to creating a musical, organic feel to each piece despite none of the musicians being in the same room at any point during the recording process!

"a sound palette which sits in a place between amplified Fusion, grand big band sound, yet also sweaty improvisational club atmosphere, without ever clearly committing to one of these aspects for long. This music, which is presented in an easily digestable average song length of seven minutes, flows between styles very subtly without you even actively noticing it during casual listening."

There is something about about the way the strings and the winds talk to each other in this album that is attractive. The relaxed pace of many of the pieces also fits my taste. aswinmusiclistening
